In the third event of our latest online events series, as part of our current Global Challenge uncovering the next generation of sustainable materials research and innovation, with leading academics at Imperial College London and NC State University about their latest sustainable materials research and partnering opportunities for teams in industry R&D.
Speakers:
Dr Agnieszka Brandt-Talbot, Imperial College London
Agnieszka is a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London and leads the Sustainable Carbon Solutions research team. Dr Brandt-Talbot is interested in creating bio-derived materials and chemicals from sustainable biomass and the application of novel tailor-made solvents for more sustainable use of carbon in our economy.
Dr Brandt-Talbot was awarded Imperial’s President’s Award of Excellence for Outstanding Early Career Researcher in 2015, the Department of Chemical Engineering’s Sir William Wakeham Award in 2016, and a 2017 Imperial College Research Fellowship which she took up in the Department of Chemistry. She is co-founder and a director of start-up company Lixea.
Dr Ericka Ford, NC State University
Ericka is an Associate Professor at North Carolina State University, having a joint appointment between the Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science (TECS) in the Wilson College of Textiles and The Nonwovens Institute (NWI), since 2014.
Her research in fiber extrusion and textile nanotechnologies has garnered multi-disciplinary collaborations and industry funding on topics of ‘green’ fiber manufacturing to minimize pollution, the substitution of hazardous chemistries or those having a high carbon footprint, and the use of industrialized crops to solve today’s sustainability challenges, and solutions to positively affect the ‘blue’ marine economy.
