University of Birmingham Professor starts collaboration with global leader in digital microsensors
In early 2022, Professor Tim Albrecht from the University of Birmingham submitted a project proposal to an industry team running a Discover campaign to search for adsorption-based sensors for measuring carbon dioxide (CO²) concentration in ambient air. Eight months on, Albrecht and his team have had several meetings with the company and are working on creating test samples.
Albrecht was contacted by IN-PART’s Discover team and encouraged to submit a proposal due to his team’s world-leading work on gas sensors. Despite offering a lower TRL than the company initially required, Albrecht made a strong case, matching his team’s substantial expertise in the area to the requirements outlined in the Industry Call for Opportunities (ICO).
“The [IN-PART] team helped to liaise with the client and provided an interface to match capabilities and expectations.” – Professor Tim Albrecht, University of Birmingham.
Commenting on the elements of the campaign that inspired him to submit a proposal, Albrecht said “I could see how the client might benefit from more strategic discussions and this informed our initial approach.”
Albrecht also had positive comments about the process of submitting to the campaign;
“[It] was simple and straightforward, even if our initial submission was rather more general (non-standard) than what the call was asking for”
