Case Study | University of Toronto partner with semiconductor company

University of Toronto establish partnership with a leading semiconductor company

The University of Toronto, Canada’s top university and among the best public universities in the world, joined IN-PART’s matchmaking platform in 2020. Since then, technologies developed by University of Toronto researchers have been introduced to a range of key decision-makers within our global R&D network, resulting in valuable conversations and new partnerships to support the development and commercialisation of the research.

Akshita Vincent, Business Development Officer (Industry Partnerships) at the University of Toronto’s Innovations & Partnerships Office, has managed some of these interactions. Sharing her thoughts on the platform, Akshita said,

“We’ve had several very interesting discussions with potential industry partners. Many of these are still ‘open’ and proceeding well.”

With one of these discussions in particular, researchers at Toronto are currently in the process of establishing a new partnership. This is for a reagent-free electrochemical sensing technology that provides real-time physiological markers for a variety of health indicators in applications such as diagnostics, wearables and bioproduction processes.

A leading North American electronics company initiated contact with Akshita and her team about the technology through IN-PART late last year. After multiple meetings and exchange of information under an NDA, the company and the university are now in the process of formalizing a collaborative prototyping research project together.

Akshita summed up how their conversation was progressing:

“It has been a real pleasure working with them [the electronics company] on this technology. They have been very responsive throughout the process and provided us with valuable feedback on our technology.”
